Festival of Arts: Board Member Spotlight
Michael Sullivan is a home-grown talent who lived in LaVerne and graduated from Bonita High School in 2001. While at Bonita High School, he was exposed to the Festival of Western Arts through the student art competitions and his pieces received Best of Show awards for two years in a row. One of these award-winning works of art was purchased and hung in Congressman David Dreier’s local office.
Dedicated to the study of art, Sullivan was accepted to the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, where he majored in Illustration. He earned the coveted position on the Dean’s list when he graduated in 2005. Shortly after, Michael won first important contract for residential decorative painting in Pasadena. This early job catapulted him into a specialized business of creating murals and decorative painting with a specialty in plaster, faux finishes and fine art known as Michael Sullivan Art, Inc. Figurative and landscape fine art remains his artistic passion but it has taken a back seat to running his growing business.
Michael joined the Festival’s Board with hopes of offering a new and fresh perspective on some of trends that he hopes will keep the Festival current and relevant. He now resides in Yorba Linda with his wife Charnel and their two sons.
An example of his mural paintings has most recently been transformed into a wine label for the Historic Galleano Wineries and will be on display during the Festival of Arts Spring ‘California Images & History’ Exhibion & Sale on April 22, 23, 24, 2016.
