About the Artist
Born in New York City, Richard Myer demonstrated a remarkable amount of creativity as a child. When Richard was 12 he vacationed with the family in the West, visiting Indian reservations and historical ruins. The rugged West and all its scenic beauty filled him with awe and wonder and he vowed he would return.
After High School, he served in the military where he was a member of the Special Services in Japan. After the military he did return west and earned his BA degree in Fine Arts at the Brigham Young University in Utah. He was the first bronze sculptor at the University and later became an instructor.
In 1970 he moved to California where he began his professional sculpting career. Among notable collectors who own his bronzes are former Presidents Reagan and Ford, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Wayne Newton. The bronze marker for John Wayne’s unmarked grave in Newport, CA was also done by Richard.
